WALLPAPER REMOVAL IS A MESS!

Nearly every home improvement site describes removing wallpaper as one of the biggest home renovation hassles people have ever dealt with. Not all wallpaper is created equal, and not all walls are the same. The mess left behind is a huge hassle in and of itself.

STEP 1: PROTECT THE FLOORS

The floors must be protected from a big, wet mess, and must be well-taped from corner to corner. Water is a part of the removal process, and this results in clumps of wet paper and old adhesive that become like clumps of glue as it dries, making it VERY difficult to remove from uncovered floors.

STEP 2: REMOVE THE WALLPAPER

Now the fun begins! The old paper is scored and water used to aid in the removal process. Most folks find difficulty not only in the wallpaper removal itself, but also in getting the old adhesive off of the wall without damaging the wall.

STEP 3: SEALING THE WALLS

Removing the wallpaper usually exposes either the backing paper or pulls the surface paper from the drywall itself. Since drywall compound can cause the paper underneath to bubble, it must first be sealed with an oil-based or primer or lacquer sealer (pictured).

STEP 4: SKIMMING & TEXTURE

Once the walls are sealed, any gouges or divots from the removal process are filled with drywall compound, exposed seams are floated, and in some cases the entire wall must be floated. Once dry, the walls can then be sanded and any desired texture applied.

STEP 5: PRIMING & PAINTING

With the texture complete, the walls can finally be primed and then painted. All waste and masking paper/plastic is removed, and the room is finally updated and ready to use again!
