Contrast Is The Name Of The Game
Much like the color trends for last year, this year’s trend for paint colors is bold. Benjamin Moore’s color of the year for 2018 is a strong red wine color called Caliente, and it’s not for the faint of heart. It’s almost the same color (Neon Red) that they’ve chosen to bathe us in on their home page.
For decades, people have loved to go with a bold, Roman red in the kitchen. And if you’ve been considering it at all, this year would be the time to go for it. Bright reds can also work well in bathrooms, sun rooms and game rooms. For bedrooms, darker reds work better as red is a fiery color that enlivens us rather than puts us to sleep.
Contrast your bright hues with pure white, or your Earth tones with light creams, and you’ll be so 2018.

Rich And Strong Paint Colors Are In Style (And Black Is Back)
Black walls, yes, various shades of black are totally in. They work particularly well in dining rooms, bathrooms, and offices. They are also VERY popular as accent walls. Again, contrasting with white trim or white porcelain, and you’re on top of the trend. Other paint colors to contrast with black can be golds, or bright colors like turquoise or coral.
Purples and teals have also made the list this year, as have any grey hues and yellows. There’s a good article on thespruce.com showing many of these same trends.
Trends, Schmends
The most important thing about choosing paint colors for your home is that it pleases you. Bold might be in style, but if you love Earthen adobe colors more than anything, who really cares what’s in style? We can also help you narrow down your paint colors selection.
The take-away for 2018 is that you don’t need an art degree and have crazy hair to choose bold or dark paint colors anymore. So have fun! The pendulum has swung back to the 18th century, where wild walls were all the rage… well, maybe not that wild yet. But we’re headed there, so feel free to spear-head the movement!
After all, paint is like hair. You can change it. Let us help you.
